Product Description
This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts the Cathedral (Dom) in Mainz, Germany in Victorian times during Christmas. The historic building is the center of attention in this calendar, as well as, in real life: visible from afar, the cathedral shapes the city and is one of the most important landmarks. The Dom is complemented by colorful collage of Victorian figures.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a little picture.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and has continued since. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24 in anticipation of Christmas. A great activity to do with children and family.
