Product Description
This German advent calendar shows a delightful scene where toys have come to life and parade along the quiet, snow covered alpine village streets at night. A toy soldier rides a rocking horse leading the toy carriage packed with more toys, wrapped gifts, a large sack and fir trees ready to decorate. A crate of fruit, sacks, trunks and colorful parcels, a dog with a red bow and another with blue, cookies and more are dropped off as the Christmas parade makes its way through town. A scrolling border with star frames this German paper calendar.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a small picture.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
