This paper German Advent Calendar - Christmas Card is a card version of the the first advent calendar produced by Richard Sellmer Verlag, originally published in 1946, it shows this careful attention to detail and sophisticated, handcrafted design.

This motif was the first German paper advent calendar that was made available to the US and was promoted by president Eisenhower and his family.  Richard Sellmer crafted this first calendar himself in the living room of his house in the Schmellbachstraße which today is across the street from the now larger Sellmer company building.

This advent calendar Christmas card shows a nostalgic panorama of a traditional German village.  The little village comes to life as each door is opened, revealing cheerful and colorful scenes for each day in December.

The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
