An Ode to a Christmas Classic
The Christmas of 1818 in Oberdorf bei Salzburg was an all-time low for the alpine village. The Church of St. Nicholas had been damaged by floods and the organ wasn’t working. Undaunted, two men composed a special song for the Christmas Eve mass—a song that would become one of the most beloved carols of all time: Silent Night.
Although the church of St. Nicholas no longer remains, a quaint alpine chapel commemorates the location where the church stood and where "Silent Night" was first performed. The Silent Night chapel is depicted along with hand painted accents on this Christmas beer stein. Made in Germany by King Werk, it is truly stunning.
Handcrafted to Perfection
The chapel is coated from a fresh snowfall and framed by bouquets of the alpine Edelweiss flowers on a dark cobalt blue background. 24K gold accents adorn the relief decoration. The handle bears Edelweiss blooms and the words "Froehliche" (Merry) on one side and "Weihnachten" (Christmas) on the other. Alpine flowers & edelweiss encircle the base, and an ornate pewter lid graces the top.
