Product Description
The scene on this German made stein is taken from the medieval German legend of Nibelungen. Siegfried with his magic sword makes his farewell to his wife Krimhild at their Rhine River castle to fight the Dragon which guards a massive deposit of gold (depicted in solid pewter on the lid). After killing the dragon, Siegfried bathes in it's blood, giving him invulnerability. During this bath a leaf falls on his back leaving one small vulnerable area. This Achilles heel will later be used by his enemy Hagen von Tronje to murder him during a bear hunt.
The side panel show two Rhine castles, both in equally vivid relief. Hand painted, cobalt blue glaze finish with solid pewter dragon figurine lid.
This beer stein was originally produced by Thewalt GmbH of Germany from an antique design and is now being faithfully reproduced from the original mold by King-Werk GmbH of Germany.
