Product Description
Santa & Gingerbread German Advent Calendar
This German advent calendar depicts various whimsical scenes with children, Santa, stars, woodland animals, toys, gingerbread and more. A large gingerbread heart bears the door for Christmas eve.
Fritz Baumgarten, a prolific illustrator of German children's books, originally drew this charming scene. His work first appeared on Advent Calendars in the 1950's. He has become one of the classics.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door hides a little picture.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's. The tradition continues today by opening a door each day from December 1 thru December 24. A great activity with family as you count down to Christmas.
