Classic Fairy Tale Themed Advent Calendar
This German advent calendar shows an enchanted scene of classic fairy tale characters and woodland animals gathering for Christmas. Snow white and her seven dwarfs sit at the head of the table with puss in boots, Cinderella and more. Red riding hood brings flowers for the table already glowing with the advent calendar wreath. The Christmas star lights the forest with a heavenly glow. A garland of pine boughs decorated with bells, gingerbread, doughnuts and candles frame the scene.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a little picture.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's, with the tradition continuing today. A door is opened each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
