Product Description
Old Fashioned German Christmas Advent Calendar
This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts an old fashioned cozy view of a family in their farmhouse parlor at Christmas. A child presents a Christmas cake to her parents. Two younger siblings gather by the tiled stove and read from a book while the dog and cat relax nearby. An elaborately woven pine branch and ribbon Advent wreath hangs from the ceiling and by the four candles burning is it clear they are celebrating Christmas Eve.
First released in the 1940s, this nostalgic calendar is now being reprinted. The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a little picture.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
