Product Description
This German advent calendar Christmas card shows a Nisse pausing on his walk to watch the birds (bull finches) snacking on the winter sweetened berries. The Nisse's red suit, red & black birds & berries pop against the muted green and white forest landscape. A cozy red cabin is nestled at the foot of the forest in the deep Scandinavian snow.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a little picture behind it.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
One door is opened each day from December 1 thru December 24 according to tradition. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
