Product Description
This German advent calendar Christmas card depicts a starry winter's night scene with Nisse, also known as Tomte, from Nordic folklore. The nisse in his santa-esque garb, points out the shooting star to companion, a white bunny, while sitting on his cabin's snow covered dock star gazing. The warm glow from their lantern casts shadows on their footprints in the snow.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a little picture behind it.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
One door is opened each day from December 1 thru December 24 according to tradition. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
