Product Description
This German advent calendar Christmas card depicts a curious Nisse, also known as Tomte, from Scandinavian folklore, on tiptoe hoping to get a better view of the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. The panes of glass on the rustic window are kissed with frost causing the candles cast a soft and welcoming glow.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open, with each hiding a little picture behind it.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
One door is opened each day from December 1 thru December 24 according to tradition. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
