This beautifully detailed advent calendar depicts a vignette of the Viktualienmarkt or Food/Farmer's Market in Munich, Germany at Christmas. The Viktualienmarkt is located near the Marienplatz in the cities old town and features specialty & seasonal foods, drinks, as well as, a biergarten in the center. The onion domed towers of the Frauenkirche can be seen above the market stalls decked out with Christmas goodies, decorations and handmade crafts including a wooden Christmas pyramid and rocking horse. A boy carries a tray of pastries fresh from the oven, while two children make a snowman. Two children walking their dog look longingly at the Lebkuchen (Gingerbread) stand.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
