Product Description
Relief Decorated Swiss Beer Stein
This hand-painted, relief decorated German beer stein features three panels. The front depicts the old wooden Chapel Bridge over the river Reuss in Lucerne (Luzern). Originally built in 1333, it is the oldest covered bridge in Europe. The water tower (Wasserturm) seen standing at the midpoint is a fortified remnant from medieval times.
A man in traditional Swiss dress blowing an Alpenhorn in a lush valley with alpine backdrop is shown on the right. The Löwendenkmal or the Lion Monument is depicted on the third panel. The "Lion of Lucerne is a sculpture of a lion carved out of a rock wall by Lukas Ahorn. It was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen in the early 1800's to commemorate the Swiss Guards that were killed during the French Revolution. The monument and this depiction bear the words "HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI", which translate as "To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss".
The base and rim of the beer stein is bordered by a garland edelweiss. Relief pewter conical lid and cobalt blue background.
