Product Description
This hand painted stein pays tribute to the legend of Loreley, as well as, the village of St. Goar and St. Goarshausen. Lorelei, a maiden or mermaid that sits atop a rock overlooking the Rhine River's narrowest water passageway, entrances the passing boatmen with her beautiful song, causing them to fall negligent in the duties of navigating their boat through the treacherous waters.
The legend's origin lies in the strong current of this narrow bend in the river and the jagged rocks hidden just below the water's surface. The song of Loreley can be explained by the murmur of the fast current and small waterfall echoing off the 120 meter rock jutting out of the shoreline.
The front shows "Die Loreley" and features the coat of arms of the two nearby towns - St. Goar and St. Goarshausen. One side of this beer stein features Burg Katz (Cat Castle) with the Loreley in the background, while the other depicts the fortress Rheinfels with the city of St. Goar nestled on the Rhein river banks. The scenes are framed by grape leaves and vines, symbolizing the Rhein wine making tradition.
