Product Description
This German advent calendar Christmas card shows a scene of two children climbing a ladder in the heavens high above, in the clouds. Angels light their path with lanterns & candles and come with gifts and sweets. The friendly looking moon peeks his face from behind a cloud.
This scene is from Fritz Baumgarten's "Weihnachtswelt" (Christmas world) series of drawings. The original drawer of this charming scene, his work first appeared on Advent Calendars in the 1950's and he has become one of the classics.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
