Product Description
High relief herrings with a monkey and a cat peeping through the fish tails adorn this hand painted character beer stein. Monkeys and cats have long symbolized the wickedness of a hangover (to have a monkey on your back) in German folk lore, while a sour herring is purported to be the cure-all.
The stein reads: "Den groessten Kater (literally the 'biggest cat' or hangover), lehrt Erfahrung, bezwingt ein guter sauer Harung." around the base, which translates as: "Experience teaches that a good sour herring cures the biggest hangover."
This figural beer stein has a stoneware lid continuing the hand painted herring motif. An pewter arched cat sits atop a beer barrel on the pewter thumb lift and a monkey's head peers out of the stylized stoneware handle. Features 24K gold & silver highlights. Limited edition of 5,000 individually numbered pieces Worldwide!
