Product Description
This relief decorated rustic style, hand painted beer stein depicts Friedolin, an old German first name, which means to be "peaceable", with a beer stein & shield and cherubs with musical instruments on either side. The first bearer of the name Friedolin was Friedolin von Saeckingen who was born in Ireland and worshiped as a saint. He lived in Saeckingen, Germany until his death in about 538. Before WWI Friedolin was a synonym or nick-name for the cheerful or rowdy drunken German students during this period. The saying on the beer stein translates as: "Mother let open the door, your sonny-boy comes home drunk as a judge". Pewter conical lid.
