This beautifully detailed large advent calendar depicts a Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt) in the Marienplatz (town square) of Munich, Germany. The historic buildings including the Rathaus with Glockenspiel (animated bell-tower) and onion domed towers of the Frauenkirche frame the festive scene. Stalls sell Lebkuchen (gingerbread), Spielzeug (toys), Christmas trees, advent calendars and hot sausages. Townsfolk take the time to enjoy the holiday season, shopping, catching up with friends, sledding and walking the dog.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
