Antique German Cherusker Beer Stein
This German made Cherusker stein refers to the "Cherusci", an early German tribe. The scene depicted is a well-known Peter Duemler motif showing Hermann (also know as Hermann the German), a Cheruscan war lord, eloping with his bride Thusnelda following his victory over the Roman legions at the battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD.
Deep cobalt blue background, hand painted relief details, facon pewter lid & stylized thumblift.
This beer stein was originally produced by Thewalt GmbH of Germany and is now being faithfully reproduced from the original mold by King-Werk GmbH of Germany.
