Product Description
Frankfurt Beer Gardens Stein
The German Biergarten (beer garden) is the main theme of this German made stein; where Gemutlichkeit abounds in the shade of the linden trees with good company and good drink. Features a unique grotto or cave that is molded into the body, in which, appears a high relief view of a biermaiden serving drinks to the patrons. The sides show famous sights and cities in Germany, where undoubtedly a beer garden can be found, including Frankfurt, (the) Rhein, München, Rothenburg, Neuschwanstein, Nürnberg, Berlin & Köln.
Like many German "cliches", the beer garden was invented in the southern state of Bavaria. Back in the early 19th century, bottom-fermented beer was sensitive to the head and needed to be stored in a cellar. In the warmer summer months, brewers simply put
their benches and tables out on the grass near their cellar - and the beer garden was born.
Top rim shows traditional symbols of Germany: an edelweiss, Tirolean hat, pretzel and Kannenbäcker mug.
Vibrant hand painted details, cobalt blue glaze background and facon pewter lid.
