Product Description
This impressive German advent calendar is extra large at over 19"wide and has a beautiful watercolor illustration with rag paper like finish. In the snow-covered winter landscape, around the small pond in the middle of the forest, the animals gather. Ermines scurry through the landscape in their white winter coats, the deer stand at still in the forest and the squirrels nimbly dig for nuts in the snow. Each day as another door is opened, the lifelike illustrations by the artist Petra Lefin are further revealed, pulling you into the atmospheric landscape.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and has continued since The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day in anticipation of Christmas.
