This traditional advent calendar depicts the Protestant German tradition, where the Christkind (Christ-child) brings gifts and sweets to children. Made in Giliching, Germany (just outside of Munich) by the Korsch Verlag company, the 10.75” x 11.5” advent calendar is a great way to celebrate the approach of Weihnachten (Christmas). The traditional advent calendar features 24 doors, each with a small illustration behind it. Children delight as they count down the days until the arrival of Der Weichnachtsmann (Santa Claus).
Antique Style German Christmas Advent Calendar
The illustration on this German advent calendar depicts the traditional Christkind angels in a non –traditional way. Christkind angels use cars, trucks, and even cranes to deliver presents and treats to children in the city. A snowman on skis helps carry present into town while angels in a horse drawn sleigh bring a Christmas tree into the center of town.

The first advent calendar with small doors was made in the early 1900’s and the tradition continues to this day.
