Antique Style German Village Illustration
An idyllic, cozy German village prepares for Weihnachten (Christmas). A Tannebaum stands tall in the center of the village, candle light reflecting warmly off the snow covered roofs. Children run and play outside the functional town gates, counting down the days until Der Weichnachtsmann (Santa Claus) arrives.
Traditional Richard Sellmer Verlag Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with small doors was made in the early 1900’s and the tradition continues to this day. The Richard Sellmer Verlag company was founded in 1945, and gained popularity in America as early as 1950. Still a family run German business, the Richard Sellmer Verlag company continues the German tradition of handcrafted advent calendars.
